Taking Melbourne’s temperature | Climate Etc.

Taking Melbourne’s temperature | Climate Etc.
This guest post [via Judith Curry & Joanne Nova ], allows us Joe/Jill Average to gain an understanding of some intricacies of temperature  measurements. A cursory reading shows how temps are affected:

* by the Urban Heat Island effect [UHI], meaning heat sensors are affected by increases in population, traffic, buildings, emissions etc.
* by changing the instruments that measure temps, usually thermometers,
* by changing the location of sensors [thermometers],
* by changing the time of day when mins. and max temps are recorded,
* by adjustments and compensations used by BoM's, [bureux of meteorology].
